Press Release July 9, 2014

Clearcreek Township had extra traffic patrols out during the Fourth of July holiday (July 2nd through 6th) – The extra patrols were a part of the Police Division’s effort to make Township roads safer for residents and visitors. In late 2013, Clearcreek Township was awarded funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office to participate in their High Visibility Enforcement Overtime Grant. As a result, Clearcreek officers spent an additional 32 hours enforcing traffic laws while residents participated in their traditional Independence Day festivities. Additional Clearcreek Township officers were out to encourage safe driving during this time. Officers issued 8 additional citations during the period. The good news is that there were no arrests for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Sgt. Wally Stacy said, “We believe that this is a sign that the messages from safety campaigns like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” are working, people are thinking twice about getting behind the wheel if they have been drinking.” “In addition to the Fourth of July blitz period, we used 12 HVEO hours at the end of June leading up to the holiday” said Stacy. “This resulted in 4 additional citations. And, we will continue to have extra patrols out though the summer.” Questions about the High Visibility Enforcement Overtime grant or Clearcreek Township’s Traffic Safety goals can be directed to Sgt. Wally Stacy at 937-748-1267.
