ODJFS Creates New Hotline for Victims of Unemployment Identity Theft

In what has become a troubling trend even here in Clearcreek Township, unemployment identity theft, where a criminal files for unemployment benefits using a victim's personal information, has increased significantly in recent weeks.  We take multiple reports from our residents every day that someone has fraudulently filed for unemployment under their name.  The crime is now so widespread that the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services created a special hotline to call if someone believes their identity has been compromised and used to file for unemployment benefits.

As you may read in the linked page from the Department's February 2, 2021 news release, those who suspect they've been the victim may call (833) 658-0394, or visit https://unemployment.ohio.gov/ and click on the "Report Identity Theft" button and follow the prompts, to report it.
